New Innovations From IBM

Remotely Controlled Traffic Lights That Halt Drivers’ Engines
The company recently submitted a patent application for “A System and Method for Controlling Vehicle Engine Running State at Busy Intersections for Increased Fuel Consumption Efficiency” which essentially prevents cars from running red lights by remotely stopping vehicle engines.

By receiving data from vehicles waiting at traffic lights, the system can send “stop-engine” notifications to cars waiting for longer than a specified amount of time. The patent explains further:
“The method may comprise..responding to a proceed status indicated by the traffic signal, further comprising: sending a start-engine notification to a first vehicle in the queue; calculating an optimal time for an engine of a second vehicle in the queue to start when the first vehicle starts moving; and sending the start-engine notification to the second vehicle in the queue at the optimal time.”

Latest technology for twitter

Twitter Technology

selling inventions
Jack Dorsey, the co-inventor of Twitter, is promoting his latest invention called the Square. The square is a small plug-in attachment to your mobile phone that allows you to receive credit card payments.
The idea originated from Dorsey's friend Jim McKelvey who was unable to sell some glass work to a customer because he couldn't accept a particular card being used.
Accepting credit card payments for something you're selling isn't always easy, especially if you are mobile like a tradesman, delivery service or a vendor at a trade show.
This latest invention uses a small scanner that plugs into the audio input jack on a mobile device.
It reads information on a credit card when it is swiped. The information is not stored on the device but is encrypted and sent over secure channels to banks.
It basically makes any mobile phone a cash register for accepting card payments.
As a payor, you receive a receipt via email that can be instantly accessed securely online. You can also use a text message to authorize payment in real time.
Retailers can create a payor account for their customers which accelerates the payment process.
latest inventionsFor example, a cardholder can assign a photo to their card so their photo will appear on the phone for visual identity confirmation. Mobile devices with touch screens will also allow you to sign for goods.
There are no contracts, monthly fees, or hidden costs to accept card payments using Square and it is expected the plug-in attachment will also be free of charge.
A penny from every transaction will also be given to a cause of your choice.
As with Twitter, it's anticipated that Dorsey will direct the company based upon feedback from users.

1. Robot Suit that Helps Elderly Farmers
Prof. Shigeki Toyama of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology's Graduate School of Engineering together with his colleagues invented a robot suit that elderly farmers can attach to their body and carries out their daily work much easier, being assisted by the machine. The device is called Power Assist and it can be of great help when collecting, for example, grapes.

2)  Structure that Boosts the Power of Wind TurbinesKyushu University professor Yuji Ohya and his team invented the Wind Lens to increase the amount of energy that is produced by offshore wind turbines. Their structure resembles a honeycomb and can triple the amount of power generated by the turbines.

3)  Robotic Arm That Attaches to Wheelchair to Help the DisabledThis robotic arm is called RAPUDA (Robotic Arm for Persons with Upper limb DisAbilities). It is worth mentioning that the device, which can be attached to a wheelchair, can be easily managed by the user. The robot arm boasts a large number of different motions that can help people with certain physical disabilities.

New cool gadgets

1) The Torch Ultra-Bright Flashlight is currently being reviewed by The Guinness Book of World Records for sheer awesomeness in a flashlight. It can melt plastic, light paper on fire in a few seconds, cook scrambled eggs, and get your s'mores marshmallows nice and smooshy. Insert alternative description here Inside the Torch is a 100 watt halogen light bulb that runs on a custom built high voltage rechargeable battery. But we hear your concerns. "What keeps the front lens from shattering from all that heat?" Well, worrisome geek, the makers of the Torch thought of that! That's why it's equipped with a specialized heat resistant glass lens. Oh, and did we mention the case is durable, military grade aluminum? That's one sexy and powerful flashlight!

Tea Bag that Uses Nanotechnology to Clean Drinking Water

One of the latest inventions developed by researchers from Stellenbosch University in South Africa is a one of a kind "tea bag" that makes use of nanotechnologyto clean drinking water, making it free from contaminants and bacteria.
It would be interesting to note that the "tea bag" is made of the same material that is used to make the actual tea bags. The only difference is that in the Stellenbosch researchers' invention the ingredients are nanoscale fibers and grains of carbon, reportsio9.
Both fibers and grains of carbon filter water from all hazardous contaminants. In order to purify the water, the user needs to place the tea bag in the neck of a water bottle. The tea bag filters the water when the person drinks from the bottle.
One bag can be used to filter up to 1 liter of water.

3)  Machine Able to Convert Plastic Into OilAn engineer and researcher from Blest, a company based in Japan, has come up with a machine able to turn plastic into oil, thus making one more step towards the future in which people will use more renewable energy sources. Akinori Ito's device can be of different sizes and can be used in factories and even at home.
